Advertising on wordpress.com

wordpress.com doesn’t allow the image / text advertising to be put on its blogs and shows their ads sometimes on its blogs so that the free features remains free. Third-party advertising networks like Google AdSense, OpenX, Lijit, BuySellAds, and Vibrant Media are not allowed.

However, they allow the affiliate links as long as the content is rich and the blog isn’t made solely for affiliate marketing.

But I want to put ads on wordpress.com blog anyway

There is a program called WordAds which allow the advertising on your wordpress.com blog. Additionally, they offer the WordPress.com Premium and WordPress.com Business plans to completely remove their ads.

Is it a viable solution?

We personally do not recommend creating your blog on wordpress.com if you want to earn money through blogging. Self-hosted WordPress (wordpress.org) is cheaper than buying WordAds program on wordpress.com blog and upgrading to premium plans. Also, the web server will be yours, so it will be your site in a real sense.

Best advertising network

Google AdSense

Google AdSense

Google AdSense is the most popular when it comes to banner ads because it provides high CPC (cost per click) rate. They pay you money when a user click on your ads. Depends on your audience, you can get a handsome amount of money through this program. It is considered the

Infolinks

Infolinks

For text-based ads, Infolinks is the most popular which also provides CPM (cost per miles); that is, they will also pay when users view the ads unlike Google AdSense which only pay for clicks.

If your blog has less text based posts but still have good audience, then Google’s AdSense is highly recommended. If you have more text-based posts, but less audience then you should go with Infolinks. Also, Infolinks doesn’t ban you easily from their program unlike AdSense from which you can get banned easily if you violate any of their terms.

Infolinks

It’s process of putting the ads is similar to Google AdSense. Just go to their site and get the code and then paste it in the widget of your WordPress blog.

Adding ads through plugins

There is a plugin by BestWebSoft which allows you to put ads in the widgets and in posts automaitcally. For fastening the process of putting ads, it is highly recommended.

Infolinks also provide a plugin which automatically put In-Text and other ads of their networks in your blog.

Where should I place the ads?

There is no best placement for ads as it entirely depends on your blog. Though, ads on top of the page and below the blog post usually get more clicks.

You should also read Google AdSense’ Term of Services (TOS) which doesn’t allow the ads to be placed in such places where it force the users to click on it, so you don’t get banned.

What happens if I click my own ads?

You may be tempted to click your own ads. Know that the algorithms in the advertising networks are very smart, especially the Google AdSense’s algorithm which will find out when you have clicked your own ads. This can get you banned from their program. So please never do that!

Infolinks may also not pay you money if they find out that you have clicked your own ads.
